10/10/2005: "Rm110 Brenda Lortz- Files and programs"
Overview Went rather well. Got through the rules and entering classroom procedures rather easily. I found that some repitition was necessary. I went over the basics in as many different ways that I could think of. We talked about the dock and the menu. Also, we discussed how to open a file and how to save. I tried to utilize examples from "real life", and I tried to involve the students in the demonstration as much as possible. The projector is a priceless classroom tool. I don't believe I would have gotten very far without it.
The student teacher (who's name I cannot recall) was extremely helpful. I am grieved I do not know many names.
I found that by not having a concrete plan, I was able to focus on components of the lesson that I thought warrented attention. Obviously, such an approach is only effective as a short term solution. As I show the students and teachers what I can do, I'll make a plan that fits their reactions.
For next time I'll have the Phonetics program that I created up and running on all the computers in the lab by next week. Hopefully, I will be able to expand some of it's features in order to maintain the interest of students. I described the program to Mrs. Lortz and she gave me the go ahead.
And another thing.. I found that the tendency of the class to raise their hands to be called upon without having the slightest understanding of the question posed was very endearing.
