10/12/2005: "Rm109 Marsha Henry- Files & other basics"

Overview
This class was very attentive and responsive. I was quite pleased. I thought that the bilingual nature of the students would have posed an obstical, but I didn't notice this. I tried to choose very simple language. The projector was not working at the beginning of the class time for some reason. This actully made for a very productive class time, however. I had a much closer personal connection with the students than I would have had otherwise.


For next time
I would like to introduce them to the application that I have created for the first grade class. I think it would be a great way to introduce some basic computer skills, and also allow them to play for a while. I would like to expand the functionality of the proogram to include some animations and more words. Perhaps even the ability to select different pictures and have words created from the pictures.

Visual aids
Today I had the great idea of using my folder as a way of demonstrating the real life model of computer folders. It was a great tool. I believe that it helped to nail down what I meant to say. I also discovered that the Chess program provides speech feedback, which helped to absorb the students interest. I hadn't thought of that. It's nice to make such discoveries. Perhaps I can utilize that in next class period. I know that there is a text to speech feature of all text on the macintosh. It may become a bit hectic, but it is a fun way to be rewarded for keyboarding.
